Valtournenche

Valtournenche

Valtournenche sits at the top of the valley of the same name, crossed by the Marmore Torrent and comprising what was once the Breuil mountain pasture and from the early twentieth century developed into the marvellous Cervinia tourist area.

Holidaymakers come here to find peace and quiet in an area that has conserved all the values and advantages of traditional
mountain village life. The centre of Valtournenche is well worth a visit, especially the little square opposite the parish church: the walls of the building are covered in stones and plaques dedicated to the memory of the most famous alpine guides of the Matterhorn, the “mountain folk” of the Valtournenche, the true forerunners of modern-day mountaineering, the best-known of whom remains the alpine guide Luigi Carrel.

Near the Town Hall, visitors can admire the “Rascard d’Entrèves”, an architectural gem from the 17th century. Nearby is the modern sports centre, which has a gym, swimming pool, sauna and a climbing practice wall. In summer, in addition to the huge variety of walking routes and the Gorbeillon Via Ferrata, you can also try your hand at angling in the fishing reserve of the hydroelectric dam of Ussin.
