Aosta

Whether it is for a city-break or for a holiday to discover the whole region,

the best destination for you is Aosta!

By staying in Aosta or in its surroundings you will find the right compromise between being in the mountains, surrounded by an amphitheatre of green or white peaks, and being surrounded by the history and the millenary culture of a city which will truly charm you with its monumental and archaeological heritage.

Here, right at the confluence of the main ways towards France and Switzerland, the Romans founded the ancient Augusta Praetoria Salassorum, a city whose ruins are still visible: the Roman Theatre, the Porta Praetoria, the Arc of Augustus, the Cryptoporticus, the walls and the towers are all there waiting for you!

Restaurants, wine bars, cafés, wine shops, and craftsmen’s studios are the heart of the city centre.

In addition, a lot of events and rendezvous take place here: from the millenary Sant’Orso fair, on 30th and 31st January, to the Foire d’été in August, to the Christmas market, which is locally known as Marché Vert Noël, a tiny Alpine village setting right in the heart of the Roman Theatre.

The visit of the city, because of its archaeological and cultural heritage, should last at least two days; but if you aren’t keen on culture and you prefer to do some sport, then you will appreciate Aosta as a ski resort, since a comfortable and fast cableway will make you reach Pila, one of the best known Valdôtain ski resorts in 18 minutes only. Its slopes are always perfect and from there you can enjoy a superb view over the Alps.

If you love cycling, you need to come here in summer: you will be able to try downhill in Pila or the relaxing cycle lane that skirts the Dora, the river that crosses the city, and reaches the Fénis castle eastwards or the Aymavilles one westwards.

What are you waiting for? If you haven’t already done so, come and be charmed by this enchanting city!

You can choose between a stay in the city or in its surroundings if you prefer to be plunged into nature, just a few kilometres away from the city.
