Off the beaten tracks

Unknown names of tiny towns, where the time seems to have stopped. And maybe it really stopped.

It is another Aosta Valley, the less tourist one, away from the beaten tracks, less busy. A ‘less’ that becomes a real ‘plus’ for those who seek for dis-connection, truce, peace.

In the historical Coumba Freida, the towns of Ollomont, Bionaz, Valpelline and Doues are deeply connected to agriculture and breeding. Here Mother Nature regulates Time and here the true pleasure of tiny things and gestures has kept all its importance and charm.

Right in the heart of the Gran Paradiso National Park, in Valsavarenche, wild animals are the true protagonists and locals live in deep connection with this protected area, always by respecting the bonds to preserve it; very little far away, the Valgrisenche is the wildest valley of the Gran Paradiso National Park: in winter it is the kingdom of free riders and of powder lovers, who can find here views that are so close to the Canadian ones!

Saint-Nicolas, lying in a wide and sunny flat area on a sort of suspended balcony over the central valley, is an oasis of peace, almost irreal, where the view spans from Mont Emilius to Rutor.

At the entrance of the Lys valley, three tiny villages live frozen in time… Lillianes, Perloz and Fontainemore: they are the unexplored entrance gates to Mont Mars Nature reserve and to the Walser culture. Quite close, going through the two valleys that lead to the heart of the Mont Avic nature park, the towns of Pontboset and Champorcher, together with Champdepraz almost disappear in the presence of the wild nature that surrounds them.

Last, but not least, the jewels of the Matterhorn valley, Chamois and La Magdeleine. A structure made of wood, in a simple yet pleasant way, little churches, ancient mills…all in perfect harmony. The arrival in Chamois, which can be reached only on foot or by chairlift, means stepping back in time, where the spell still exists.
